Yoga sessions generally run from 1-2 hours in length. They can be participated in any flat open area, lobby, empty conference room, studio, or flat lawn area. Certain class styles lend themselves better to the location than others. Yoga Nidra or restorative yoga, for example, both require a calm quiet atmosphere and would not go well in a public setting such as a park. Hatha, Gentle and Beginner yoga classes can be performed just about anywhere.
Hatha yoga can be described as traditional yoga, or simply yoga. It can be practiced by beginners and advanced practitioners alike and may or may not have "flow" in the sequencing. The style of yoga I teach puts the emphasis on alignment first. Then with a mastery of alignment, more and more flow can be accessed. The alignment based method helps to develop strength in a way that honors natural skeletal structure to help us find more ease in our body and in daily life. Sessions run from 1-2 hours.
Restorative yoga is a slow paced relaxing experience full of props. Lasting at least 1 hour, I like to say "it is a lot of rolling around on the floor". For this practice you need a variety of props so that you can get yourself into the various poses and then let gravity do the work. It is best practiced set to relaxing music in a slightly warm environment.
Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation)
Yoga Nidra is "yogic sleep." Classes are usually 1-2 hours long. This is a deep guided meditation practiced in a quiet environment in a fully supported reclined pose. The room should be a bit warm and the students are tucked in under a blanket or two. The focus is to drift along the edge of consciousness without falling asleep. In this practice an intention or resolve is set and then left to the subconscious while you follow along the guided meditation. It is said that just 30 minutes of yoga nidra practice is equivalent to 4 hours of restful sleep.
Kids & Family
Kids Yoga is unlike any yoga class you have ever participated in. The classes vary based upon the age of the students. From mostly yoga play (age 3) to traditional yoga with kid friendly vocabulary and cues (age 10). Length is 30 minutes - 1 hour.
Mindful parenting is a daily practice that will enhance your life with your child. These sessions focus on explaining the principles and staple practices for parents to take home and begin living a richer less stressful life with their kids. Length is typically 1-2 hours.
Family Mindfulness Practice
Family mindfulness practice is a time to get the whole family together and go over various ways to get and stay mindful together. Tips, tricks, and hands on exercises help parents and kids get in touch with the present moment. This class is meant as a basis or refresher to getting and keeping your family mindful. Sessions generally last 30 minutes - 1 hour.
Meditation & Mindfulness
There is nothing quite like the energy and community built in meditating together. Can be anything you like, yoga nidra, guided meditation, beginner meditation and discussion, and mindfulness exercises. Sessions can run from 30 minutes - 2 hours.
Great for beginners and seasoned practitioners alike, guided meditations can help you stay on track with a meditation practice. Sessions can be planned on any theme you like and range from 30 minutes - 1 hour.
Beginner Meditation Techniques
